Vital & Vice FAQs

Have questions about anything? Please feel free to reach out to us, but this resource is here for you to answer many common questions.

Overview

What is Vital & Vice?

Vital & Vice is a managed vending service that installs and operates a snack-and-beverage machine at your location. We handle product selection, stocking, payments, monitoring, and support so your team or customers get reliable refreshments without you running a mini store.

What types of locations are a good fit?

Common fits include:

  • Auto repair and service centers
  • Gyms and fitness studios
  • Warehouses and light industrial
  • Office buildings and coworking spaces
  • Clinics and waiting areas
  • Schools and after-school programs (with approved assortments)
  • Multifamily amenities and common areas
Is there a minimum headcount or foot traffic requirement?

Usually yes. Consistent daily traffic is ideal. We assess based on people on site per day (staff + customers), hours of access, whether the machine serves staff/customers/both, and nearby food options.

Getting Started

How does it work for a host location?
  1. You share basic site details (foot traffic, hours, audience, preferences).
  2. We confirm fit, placement, and power/network needs.
  3. We install the machine.
  4. We restock, monitor performance, and provide support on an ongoing basis.
How do we request a machine?

Visit this form and fill out your information. We’ll confirm fit and follow up with a phone call and setup a meeting.

Costs, Revenue, and Terms

What does it cost the host?

In many cases, nothing up front. The machine is typically provided and operated by Vital & Vice. Site-specific terms depend on traffic, placement, and service cadence.

Do hosts earn revenue?

That is possible, yes. Common models include:

  • Commission on sales (percentage of monthly revenue)
  • Fixed monthly site fee
  • Hybrid (lower commission + fixed fee)

We’ll propose what makes sense for your location’s traffic and goals.

Is there a contract?

Typically yes, with clear terms around installation/removal, service expectations, host responsibilities (space/power/access), and any revenue-share or fee structure.

Can we end it if it’s not working?

Yes. We’ll define a ramp or trial period and practical performance expectations so you’re not stuck with something that isn’t delivering value.

Space, Power, and Connectivity

How much space does the machine need?

Ballpark footprints (plus practical clearance):

  • Single machine: about 3 ft wide × 3 ft deep (≈ 9 sq ft), plus ~3 ft of standing/service clearance in front.
  • Double setup (two machines side-by-side): about 6.5–7 ft wide × 3 ft deep (≈ 20–22 sq ft), plus the same front clearance.

(Exact dimensions vary by model, but these ranges are reliable for planning.)

What power is required?

Most machines need a standard grounded outlet. Refrigerated machines draw more power due to compressors and fans. We confirm requirements before install.

What’s a ballpark monthly electricity cost in Northern NJ?

Costs vary by model, ambient temperature, lighting, and whether low-power features are enabled. As a planning range:

  • Room-temp machine (no refrigeration): often about $5–$20/month
  • Refrigerated machine: often about $15–$85/month

We can estimate more precisely after selecting the machine model and placement. As always, we can cover all costs.

Does it need Wi-Fi or cellular?

Preferably yes (Wi-Fi or built-in cellular) so we can monitor sales and inventory, detect issues quickly, and optimize restocking and product mix.

Who is responsible for the internet connection?

It depends on the arrangement. Some hosts provide guest Wi-Fi access (recommended). Some installs use cellular connectivity managed by us.

Products and Pricing

What products do you stock?

A curated mix can include:

  • Popular chips, candy, sodas (the classics)
  • Better-for-you snacks (protein, lower sugar, gluten-free options)
  • Functional beverages (energy, hydration, cold brew)
  • Location-specific items (based on your audience)
  • Non-food essentials (optional, by location): gum/mints, wipes/hand sanitizer, lip balm, simple first-aid (bandages), and other grab-and-go items
Can we request specific items?

Yes. We keep a core best-sellers mix and can customize a portion of slots to your requests, subject to availability and performance.

Can you support dietary preferences or allergens?

We can stock options such as low-sugar, gluten-free, vegan/vegetarian, and reduced-allergen assortments where feasible. We can’t guarantee an allergen-free environment, but we can design the mix thoughtfully and label clearly.

Who sets the prices?

Typically Vital & Vice sets pricing to balance local competitiveness, product costs, and service economics. We can align on a value-focused versus premium approach up front.

Payments and Support

What payment methods are supported?

Varies by machine, but commonly includes tap-to-pay (contactless), chip/swipe cards, and mobile wallets. Some locations may also support cash.

What if the machine takes money but doesn’t vend?

We provide a clear refund or credit process and can often diagnose issues via monitoring. Users will have a simple way to report problems (QR code, text, or email depending on setup).

Operations and Maintenance

How often do you restock?

Based on sales volume. Common cadence is weekly, biweekly, or as-needed, guided by monitoring.

Who cleans and maintains the machine?

Vital & Vice handles routine maintenance and coordinates service/repairs. We’ll also define light host responsibilities (for example: keep the area accessible and don’t block the machine).

What happens if the machine breaks?

We triage quickly, diagnose remotely when possible, and dispatch service as needed, with clear communication to the host on status.

Security, Outdoor Installs, and Insurance

What about theft or vandalism?

We recommend placement in visible areas, ideally with existing cameras or staff presence. Security expectations (anchoring, access control) depend on the site and will be covered in the install plan.

Can it be installed outdoors?

Outdoor installs usually require weather-rated equipment or an enclosure, stronger physical security, and additional insurance requirements. We’ll specify exact outdoor requirements in the agreement.

Are you insured?

Yes. We typically carry insurance that covers the machine itself. Any additional requirements or allocations (site liability, vandalism/theft terms, outdoor-specific coverage, additional insured provisions, etc.) will be spelled out in the contract.

Branding and Promotions

Can we brand the machine for our location?

Often yes. Decals, wraps, or powered-by branding may be available depending on the machine and placement.

Can the machine support promotions or QR codes?

Yes. We can add QR codes for support/refunds, new-item callouts, seasonal promos, and optionally trackable links for campaign measurement.
